Luna Mahoux is a Belgian artist of Ethiopian origin whose practice unfolds through film, photography, and installation. Her work explores invisibilized Afro-diasporic narratives through a dialogue between personal archives, vernacular images, and popular internet culture. Drawing from both intimate and collective histories, she creates visual essays that question memory, the circulation of images, and the politics of representation.
A graduate of La Cambre in painting, she joined Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts (Tourcoing) in 2023, where she further develops her practice of moving images. She directed her first documentary, The Other Queen of Memphis, selected in competition at Cinéma du Réel at the Centre Pompidou (Paris).
Her work and films have been widely exhibited and presented internationally, including at the Cordova ( Spain), good or trash ( Paris) kustverein Hamburg (Germany) Salon de Montrouge (Paris), Chez Mécène du Sud (Montpellier), , the Circulation(s) Festival at CENTQUATRE (Paris), KANAL – Centre Pompidou (Brussels), FOMU (Antwerp), Basel Social Club (Basel), Cherish (Geneva), Coalmine (Winterthur), Photo Elysée (Lausanne), Triangle Astéride (Marseille), The Metrograph with Montez Press Radio (New York), Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection (Paris), Arsenic ( Lausann)..
In 2023, she received the .tiff – Emerging Belgian Photography Prize awarded by FOMU (Antwerp), followed by the Fintro Prize (Brussels) in 2024.
