OPEN CALL 2026

House Work Presents offers one early-career artist a free, fully supported month of creative experimentation, mentorship, and a solo exhibition in East London.  ​​​

House Work Presents welcomes artists from across disciplines to participate in a one-month residency in August 2026 — living and working in Hackney, East London.

 

Our residency supports experimentation, dialogue, and creative exchange, offering time, space, mentorship, and a solo exhibition.

RESIDENCY PERIOD:

24th JULY — 21st AUGUST

Exact dates will be confirmed with the selected artist.

Please ensure your travel arrangements align with the residency dates.

ELIGIBILITY

​OPEN TO ARTISTS OF ALL DISCIPLINES:
VISUAL ARTS / PERFORMANCE / WRITING / SOUND / DIGITAL MEDIA

 

  • Applicants of any age, nationality, or career stage are welcome

  • English fluency required 

  • The residency accommodation and studio space are located within a private maisonette accessible via a staircase.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Three supporting file (images, video, text, documentation)

  2. A 150-words statement outlining how the residency will benefit your practice

  3. A link to your website or Instagram
     

APPLICATION FEE: £20 (non-refundable)
 

Financial support is available on a case-by-case basis - please refer to our guidelines document.

Applications reviewed by a panel of selected arts professionals

WHAT THE RESIDENCY INCLUDES

PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT

We provide structured support to encourage artistic development, including:

  • BESPOKE MENTORSHIP: weekly one-to-one sessions with curators, gallerists, artists, and writers - list of arts professionals
     

  • SOLO EXHIBITION: opportunity to present work in a professionally curated exhibition
     

  • STUDIO AND WORKSPACE: dedicated studio and workspace for the duration of the residency
     

  • EQUIPMENT SUPPORT: £200 budget to support production and participation needs]
     

  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PACKAGE: publication, artist bio, cv, artist catalog 
     

  • VISA SUPPORT: full administrative assistance for international artists to ensure a smooth arrival

Selected artists have the opportunity to meet one arts professional from our network each week for tailored one-to-one mentorship.

We'll be announcing the list in January 2026, stay connected!

CONTEXT

The residency is located in one of London’s most creative communities, nestled between London Fields, Broadway Market, and Regent’s Canal. Just a 15-minute walk away are some of the city’s leading galleries, project spaces, and artist-run initiatives. Selected artists are introduced to these spaces through a series of scheduled gallery visits, fostering connections and engagement within London’s vibrant arts scene.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applications will be reviewed based on:

  • Quality, originality, and commitment of the work
     

  • Focus on the potential for the residency to benefit the artist's practice and development
     

  • Willingness to engage with community and collaborative practice

AFTER APPLYING

  • Up to 10 artists will be shortlisted by Mid March 2026, with the selected artist announced on 2nd April 2026.
     

  • Selected artist will receive a formal agreement and instructions for preparation
     

  • House Work Presents reserves the right to adjust dates or conditions if necessary
     

  • Artists are responsible for arranging travel to and from London and any personal expenses
