House Work Artist Residency, 2025

IN HOUSE WORK: THE RESIDENCY
House Work’s residency program fosters experimentation, dialogue, and creative exchange. The annual residency, taking place in October 2025, offers one artist a month-long opportunity to develop new work in East London’s vibrant creative hub.
Open to artists across disciplines — including visual arts, performance, writing, and digital media — the residency provides time, space, and resources for immersive research and production. At the end of the residency, the artist will present their work in an exhibition or open studio showcase, offering a platform to engage with audiences and peers.
What sets House Work apart is its unique setting and ethos: we operate from a 1970s maisonette on the Regents Estate in Hackney. As an artist-run initiative, House Work centres community building, artistic development, and contemporary creative practices. We offer a homely, lived-in environment that encourages connection, slowness, and experimentation — resisting institutional models in favour of something more intimate and relational.
A ONE MONTH RENT-FREE SPACE FOR
ART RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION
Our residency is self-directed, giving artists the freedom to focus on their practice independently. Alongside studio time, a curated public program will introduce residents to the local art scene, connect them with House Work’s network of artists and curators, and foster meaningful engagement with Hackney’s vibrant creative community.
Artists will receive:
-
Technical support and assistance throughout their stay
-
A £200 participation budget to support their involvement in the residency, which can be used towards materials, research, or public events.
-
A weekly studio visit with a local arts professional, selected from House Work’s network of artists, curators, writers, and researchers. Residents are encouraged to choose who they would like to meet, tailoring the experience to their individual practice and interests.
Artists are invited to:
-
Explore new ideas, materials, and approaches
-
Propose talks, workshops, or other public-facing events
-
Build connections within the local art scene and community
-
Share their work through a final exhibition or open studio presentation
